Self Assessment Essay

I have gone the last part of the Writing for Engineering course where I have learnt English in a technical way to establish the knowledge and experience in my future engineering life.

Firstly, I was struggling with my peers for linguistic differences and then by the time, I have got normalized myself in the connection. For the submissions in the class, I have been in the research of words, and I have got enriched of different vocabulary words and by the submission, I have practiced several times by writing content. For example, to analyse a lab report, I had to choose a engineering topic and research about that and had to understand those difficult words and apply those in my writing. It was the same for the technical description where we needed to discuss a machinery item with its content and technical info. We have discussed the writing before submitting the final draft so that we among the peers get time for the submissions to discuss and analyze it with the other errors. Here comes the importance of drafting, we have submitted the drafts as initial and final after fixing the language and understandable errors. Then for the engineering proposal and presentations, I have worked with group members collaboratively and learned communication in an effective way which can be a future progressive learning start in my life. I have learnt how to write an invention of paper and the addition to a new technology. Dividing the subtopics into groups, I have gained the experience of leading the group and encouraging my groupmates to participate in their work on time. We all have learnt how proposal is effective and technically give a solution of any arising question in the methodology by reflecting on the clarity of the problem definition, technical soundness of the solution, effective use of visuals, and strength of project management plans helps identify areas of strength and areas for improvement in my own engineering communication skills. This includes the ability to present complex information clearly, justify project decisions, and convincingly argue for project approval. I have worked with them successfully and earned almost the aim of the work and communicated through medium while facing some difficulties which I can use in my life as a problem-solving technique in my near future while working in a group.

Secondly, before starting the course, I had basic concepts about writing which were usable for my daily life. I have enhanced my writing speed and effectiveness throughout this course. During the different situations, I have also learnt how the writing content will be different and negotiable with my audiences. I have learnt to establish the writing genre with disciplinary context and formulate a technical writing pattern in my writing. I have also learnt the text citation format APA and how to give a reference sheet with every kind of paper. Working with interrogation, quoting, phrasing, summarizing, I have learnt the process to publish a document with proper citation and attached notation from the original copy. In this course, I have learnt about technical writing and specifically engineering writing and the approach of reviewing the products and the descriptive info for these products. I was supposed to learn the communication technique to persuade a customer about a product to define its cost, benefits, and demerits. Through analyzing different engineering document formats, I have strengthened my ability to find, use, and cite sources effectively. The course also focuses on developing my voice and argumentation through writing. On the supervision of any proper engineering mind setup, technical terms needs to be defined in a persuasive way and by writing the proposal and content maximum time, an engineer needs to collaborate and communicate through the papers. By collaborating with peers and understanding audience expectations, I have learnt to tailor my writing to specific situations. Finally, I will refine my research skills and explore effective writing strategies across various mediums, all while honing my drafting, revision, and self-assessment techniques for the future work.

Thirdly, sharing ideas in an effective and technical way is very important for engineers also with communicating with their audiences who are unknown to the different technical terms and unable to understand the functions sometimes. The course redefines writing as an engineering-specific communication tool. Here, writing goes beyond simply putting words on a page. It’s about clearly conveying complex technical concepts in a way that’s understandable to my audience, whether technical experts or non-technical stakeholders. The course emphasizes the strategic use of language and visuals, along with collaboration with peers, to craft effective documents like proposals, reports, and presentations. Writing in an effective way helps engineers to organize their thoughts by identifying different solutions and to make engineering decisions. Most engineering jobs need a lot of technical writing. By completing this course, I will develop my skills to be successful in the workplace. From submission of the writing content, getting comments from my peers I have also judged my writing by the others’ point of view. Along with my self-reflection, the comments and analysis from my peers have given me a great concept that how the audience could react on my writing proposals and content and from the comments, I have utilized the benefits of final and initial drafting to get corrected best result.

Overall, I have learnt the basic concepts of writing in a technical way to represent a professional way on the professional stage like an engineer on the working field. As I know that practicing makes a man perfect, by gaining knowledge and hands on working from the course, I will apply my knowledge in my academic future and my engineering career.
